Flex, den, multi-purpose, storage, whatever you want to call it, this strange area in your new condo is supposed to be considered a bonus. The problem is, however, for something to be a “bonus” it has to be usable and what I’ve heard from an overwhelming number of people who are “lucky” enough to have one of these elusive spaces in their home, is that they can’t figure out what to do with it. Over the next few posts (I’m back to blogging after a lengthy break), I’m going to discuss flex spaces and the best ways to utilize them. First off, though what the heck is a flex space??
While a flex space or den seems, in theory, to be an extra room with many possibilities, in many cases, the reality is that it is merely an awkward area highjacking precious square footage within already tight quarters. Often, this area doesn’t have a window or a closet, making it virtually uninhabitable, even if there is enough space for a small bed. Most typically, people attempt to create a miniature home office or art studio or they throw their hands up in defeat and it becomes a catch-all for junk. A junk drawer on steroids, if you will. My goal over the next few posts is to give suggestions, tips and products to help those of you currently in the flex space predicament, make the most of this “bonus” space. Stay tuned.
